In my thesis, I looked at nostalgia and TV seriality. Firstly I was influenced by Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma (2018) and how the director did a meticulous work of reconstruction of the settings, characters and props based on his actual memories. I later developed my analysis on the concept of nostalgia and postmodernism using as main source Fredric Jameson’s Postmodernism, Or, the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism. I have then looked into the marketing of nostalgia and argued the reasons why we all feel such a strong bond with nostalgia. This was followed up by the analysis of three main TV series in particular: Stranger Things by Matt and Ross Duffer, Shane Meadows’s This Is England and Stefano Sollima’s Romanzo Criminale.
