I am a model maker based in Dublin. I have a great passion for model-making and 3D design. I love learning new skills and work well under pressure. I strive to deliver great quality pieces on time. I often try to incorporate the knowledge I have gathered from working in craft quality butchers for over 7 years into my projects when possible. I have an interest in pursuing a future career in prop making for film and tv sets. I have always been a creative person and enjoy problem-solving while working.
For my final project I have created a movie prop. This prop is of a butchered dragon head that I have named Abraxos. I decided to combine my model making skills and my knowledge of butchery to create a a dead dragon head with a slack jaw to be used as a hand held puppet. I was inspired to make this project from the many fantasy books that I have read and wanted to create something of my own that would fit into a fantasy realm.
My thesis focuses on the big and small details that go into the character design of villains across several genres of films. I chose this as I believe as a designer myself that it is important to understand the psychology behind why we design certain characters in specific ways and how that will impact the viewer's perception of them. It also discusses the attributes that make morally grey or "villains" more relatable to the average viewer compared to their hero counterparts. Using a multitude of genres solidifies the arguments I make.
