Project Description

Tempting Fate is a modern zine collection celebrating all things superstitious, from the good fortune of itchy palms to the fear of lone magpies. Superstitions have around for centuries and have become so ingrained in our culture that they can act as a universal language to communicate desire or to express interest in someone else’s future and good fortune. The stories and supposed rationals behind different superstitions change through out the years to reflect the fears and worries of society at that time. Each issue contains thirteen superstitions around different topics, explaining the origin story of each one and how it has been altered through the years to become what it is today. Each zine also provides some scientific context behind superstition, how these irrational thoughts form and why we still follow them.
