Cillian Brennan

Over the span of 4 years in New Media Studies working theoretically and practically, my main strengths are based in writing, editing and photography. I thoroughly enjoy abstract art, analysing works of others and contributing my own. Feminist theory was an angle I dissected within many projects for New Media Studies and I feel like I have a deep understanding of its relevance and importance. Through years of practising voice over and editing softwares, I am competent at creating podcasts, blogs and video essays.

I found that I have a particular interest in experimental photography and I decided to focus an assignment on themes of intimacy and isolation. Conveying emotions and ideas through symbolism and composition was a great achievement. I aimed to produce visual poetry that portrays a narrative with mystique to engage the viewer.

My final year project was based around how reality television addresses racism. I used a case study from the mid 2000s to dissect this concept. The video essay format was the most engaging method to have a thought provoking piece of work to display this aspect of my final year project.

Journalism Piece

My final semester journalism project was an investigative piece on the subject of mental health during the pandemic. The angle within the article is based around how meditation and contemplative practices were an underrated coping mechanism that was used as a resort for those struggling during lockdown. I interviewed 4 individuals for this project ranging from a tarot card reader to a yoga specialist.
