BSc [Hons] Creative Computing

Hi, I'm Jade Kelly, a final year student of Creative Computing at IADT. I have a particular interest in JavaScript and Full-Stack development. For my final year project I conducted a comparative study on static and interactive form design.

A Comparative Analysis of Static and Interactive Form Design

The purpose of this study was to examine if interactive design improves user experience and time to complete a form. The web application for this study was developed using ReactJS which is a JavaScript library and React Bootstrap which is a JavaScript framework built for React. The steps involved in the development of the application involved creating static and interactive versions of a form and hosting the finished application. Functional testing was carried out throughout and after implementation. The results from the study show no statistical difference was detected in the time taken to complete each form design. Nevertheless, the interactive design was preferred overall by users.

The Result

Using the application Data Desk the test statistic (based on a paired design) was calculated from the results and used to simulate a visual representation of the distribution of the test statistic assuming no difference in the time taken to complete both forms - the so called null hypothesis. The result from the simulation of 500 test statistics showed no statistical difference in the time taken to complete both form designs. Nevertheless, the sample size being small (8 users) means the test might hnot have been sensitive enough to detect a difference.
