BA [Hons] Creative Music Production

My name is Patrick. Before I began studying music production, I completed grades in both classical guitar and music theory. I chose this course to expand on my interest in music and the broader industry and build a career in this area. During my time here, I have developed an interest in the role music plays in culture, synthesis, and sound post-production for film and television. My final-year project looked at bringing many of these interests together in different ways and demonstrates the skills I have developed.

Musical Interpretations of the Lettrist Movement

This project looks at creating a selection of musical interpretations of paintings. Two novice musicians (a bassist and percussionist) operated as the primary interpreters of a selection of paintings from the Lettrist art movement (a French art movement that began in the 1940s) and worked together to first synthesise their ideas through discussion and then bring their thoughts and feelings towards the visual pieces into a musical context. Their musical ideas were recorded and then brought through the production, mixing, and mastering processes with their ideas as the primary driving creative force. The completed project has five tracks, each reflecting the participants' interpretations of the visual works
