Nick Willoughby is a photographer based in Wexford Ireland. Nick's practice is in the field of portrait photography. His interest in this position came from the use of self-portraiture in hopes of exploring his identity within this medium. Identity plays a huge role in the more significant number of images he has made throughout his time as a photographer. He’s carried this out through the use of studio work and now street photography, predominantly shooting in color but recently Nick has branched out to shooting in black and white.
The images in this series explore the topic of street photography as a form of surveillance or “People Watching”. This feels more apt to Willoughby as it is the act of surveillance, rather than watching, that is intriguing to them from their outsiders perspective. The alleyway where this series was shot served as a little window onto the street, thus the series’ name was derived from and gave more meaning to surveilling these people from this little spot in the big town.
