BA [Hons] 3D Design Modelmaking + Digital Art

Hello my name is Katelyn Ansbro and I am a final year 3D Design, Modelmaking and Digital Art Student in IADT. From a young age I have always had a passion for art and have always seeked to expand my skill set. For my final year project I decided to create an Aquilops Americanus dinosaur as I have always found dinosaurs very interesting and loved the idea of bringing a not as well known species to life. Throughout my project I pushed myself to learn and develop new skills, every aspect of this project tested me and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I am excited to explore new opportunities for collaboration and creative expression beyond my studies.

Aquilops Americanus

My project is a museum piece of a dinosaur called an Aquilops Americanus. It is the oldest known horned dinosaur of its kind from North America, it has also provided paleontologists with new information on the Cretaceous Period of the dinosaurs. It is quite small reaching lengths of 60cm. Because of its small stature I decided to make my piece life size as it has not been done before in this way. I also find it important to bring this species to life in ways it has not before.
This piece is made of polyurethane resin, this means it is sturdy and durable for a museum display. To make sure I could capture the detail in my sculpture I used silicone to mold my sculpt. I had made my armature so it could come apart easily after the sculpting process, this way I could mold each piece separately and piece it together after the casting process.

The Elephant Man: The Representation of Joseph Carey Merrick and His Disabilities and Deformities in Film and Society

My thesis was about Joseph Carey Merrick and his representation in society and film. Merrick who is better known as the "Elephant Man" to many, was a man who suffered from severe deformities and disabilities. The aim of my thesis was to highlight the social injustices he suffered through and how he was represented and used throughout life and death. I thought it was important to bring Merricks story to light in order to do him some justice.
