Peter Greene

Peter Greene is a visual artist based in Dublin, using photography as a vehicle to document and reflect on the world around himself and as a tool to generate significance to that world. Greene’s work is concerned with people and their contexts, and how the two can be linked either through direct interactions or remnants of activity. Through a vernacular approach to his work, often focusing on intimate moments, Greene creates a space that is non-specific, while emanating an impression of grounding.

Project Description

Mechanisms Not Meaning is built around familiarity that is intrinsic to home - one’s shell - and how this can be affected due to interventions and traces left by others. The work focuses on barriers toward a sense of what’s known. Greene’s images play with the identification of what can be seen and separations between what is distinguished. These structures lack value before their link to one’s own environment. Experiences of the safety intrinsic to the concept of home can come at any time, and Greene aims to find these occurrences of peace in unexpected circumstances. The project is centred around evidence of your root, the value of a shell.
