Hannah Kelly

BA [Hons] New Media Studies

Hi I'm Hannah, a final year New Media Studies student in IADT! I've always had a love for the arts, especially the likes of film, photography and writing. I love capturing the simplistic nature and characteristics of every day life, as I feel it is something that at least one person would be able to resonate with. I think there's a lot of pressure for people in the creative industry to constantly create/capture something extraordinary or unique, but a lot of the times it is the ordinary that makes the story.

My dad, Derren worked in the Maritime Museum in Dun Laoghaire from 2019-2023. The tools room in the underground tunnels of the museum is where he gets everything he needs if there is something to be fixed, cleaned or improved

I wanted to incorporate the main purpose of the museum, which is showcasing the history of Dun Laoghaire as a harbour town by including the model ship in the lower half of the photo

Having set up a train set on the upper floor, Derren often came back to this area to watch the trains move on the track, as well as moving around the mini figurines that accompany it. My dad added his own train that he got for Christmas when he was a child to the set

The jellyfish sculptures were donated by IADT students as part of a project they did for the Maritime Museum a few years back. This area of the museum, located on the upper floor, is dedicated to marine life which my dad upkeeps every day and makes sure it is presented well

Located on the main floor is where an altar used to be, as the museum once was a church. This area showcases nautical devices used. The light and shadows are caused by the Baily Lighthouse Optic that was once used in Howth

Derren standing by the old Baily Lighthouse Optic which he cleans every few months. When switched on, it slowly rotates which causes the sun that shines in from the original church windows to catch it, creating amazing shadows across the whole building. This is showcased in this photo, with the reflection casting an impressive band of shadow and light on the back wall
