I have had an interest in music since I was quite young, this interest developed into a love for video, sound in general, and also various forms of art.
Replication of Emotion
This project attempts to replicate emotions given by extracts through the use of music.
Seven participants received five extracts from a novel and were then asked to answer questions on each extract. These questions were in regards to the emotional state of the participant and music / genre / instrumentation they would relate to their emotional state. Using this information, five pieces of music were created. Each participant was given one piece of music and asked to pair it to the extract.
The final results showed that only three out of seven participants felt an emotional replication between an extract and the piece of music intended for the extract. This was done through the use of blind pairing. This means that three participants were able to match the piece of music to the extract that it was created for.
